I'm typing this journal from my hospital bed. Late Friday night I went to our nearby hospital and it was determined I had a heart attack. I was airlifted downtown and taken to the cath lab, where they discovered a 99% blockage of my LAD. If you're not up on cardiologic parlance, that's bad, bad news. I feel safe saying that very many folks with such a severely occluded LAD die. It's the primary coronary artery supplying the left ventricle, which pumps oxygenated blood throughout your body.
I have a stent in place now and I feel normal. I'm an unusual sight on this floor: a 30-year-old strolling around easily. More than one staff member has commented that they can't believe I'm a patient. Lots of changes to come. It's even quite possible that I'll be completely normal again.
"Not today."
